With the release of Google’s new Panda platform, now more than ever it’sessential you create quality content to succeed with your writing career. Quality content can make you or break you as a writer. Many newbie’s battle with quality content over the quantity of content they produce. If you want your writing career to go anywhere you’ll eventually learn it doesn’t matter how quickly you can write 10 articles, but how well written those articles are. This really wasn’t as an extreme of issue as it is now because Google’s Panda enforces the quality of content if you want to rank high on their results page.
Google’s Panda and Quality Content
If you value your abilities as a writer, chances are you strive to create quality content no matter what. But, now the importance of quality content has been raised as Google’s Panda has now increased the requirements for content when indexing for a SERP ranking. Why is Google doing this? Well, Google is trying to make the Internet experience for readers more enjoyable by easily providing them with the valuable information they are looking for. In order to do so, Google is weeding out low quality content and indexing it lower to make the Internet experience more enjoyable. This means the low quality content produced by many content mills will have a much harder chance of ranking in a top 10 spot.
Google isn’t just looking at the words within content either. They have also raised the bar for links used within content and the back-links to content. This means it’s equally as important to only use authorative and relevant links in your content. Yes, Google looked at the quality of content and links before, but now they are enforcing these requirements even further if you want to achieve a high SERP ranking.
These new requirements don’t stop with the content either. If you have a blog or a web page they are also looking at the amount of time it takes a website to load, the ease of navigation of that website, ads on websites and the relevancy of the site. To keep your site ranking high, your site must have a clear and concise topic that’s something people want to read. Your site needs to be easily searchable and the load time must be kept to a minimum. Plus, double check the number of ads you have on your site and where they are located to keep your site ranking on the top 10.

I see the value in this, I do, but it does seem invasive that one company is controlling our viewing habits. This isn’t something I normally comment on, (google’s new platform, not the post). It should be interesting one way or another. Thanks tho, for keeping us writers aware.

Oh I do agree with you. It does give Google a very high level of control. One reason I agree with it, since I do a lot of research for articles, is because I often stumble on sites that are basically pointless. If it can cut down my research time by weeding out the bad sites, I’m all for it. Plus, since I consider my work to be valuable, it will give me a little boost. But I do agree, very controlling. Thanks for stopping by!

Ditto Brenda, it is of concern, but it’s also unclear whether they’re deciding on quality or allowing the people to do it.
I know you’re an SEO expert, Alyssa–does this affect the way you implement keywords, as well?
No really Shakirah. If anything, it just enforces you use them correctly and don’t keyword stuff.
