The WM Freelance Writers Connection has a dedicated Scam Detective.

Meet B.S. Vigilante.

In our collective years of freelancing, each of the bloggers here at The WM Freelance Connection has run across a company, an editor or a publisher who seems to be unethical, dishonest or otherwise unsavory. And, we’ve found, many of you have had similar experiences.

Being the type of group we are, we want to help protect ourselves and our readers from such experiences. Even so, we have been stifled on more than one occasion when we wanted to share this kind of information.

Those of you who have had similar unfortunate incidents probably know that, in some cases, there can be legal implications which may prevent a writer from discussing his or her experiences with the unsavory character or organization involved.

So, it occurred to us that a writer who hadn’t worked for or signed a contract with anyone couldn’t be legally bound to avoid discussion of the company and it’s practices. Furthermore, we realized, providing him with total anonymity would be the key to ensuring that no legal action could be taken against him.

We knew that we needed a writer who was a true professional, and one who understood and supported our mission entirely. He must be dedicated and all guts (no glory, since he’d have to remain anonymous.) He must look danger in the face and laugh, being concerned about truth and justice above all else.

In short, he must be a crusader. Our very own writerly superhero.

After an exhaustive search, we’ve found a writer to fit the bill. It is with immense pleasure that I introduce you to The WM Freelance Connection’s newest writer, B.S.

B.S. Vigilante, as he’ll be known, is our light in the dark. His job here at The WM Freelance Connection is simple: find and expose dishonest and unethical companies, editors and other people who seem to be out to generally screw our fellow writers.

B.S. will seek out, investigate and report on scams in the publishing industry–from crappy ghostwriting companies to worthless content mills to shady publishers. This will include any company, organization or individual which attempts to negatively affect any writer in an unfair or unethical way.

His goal is to share the truth, warts and all, with our WM Freelance Connection readers and community group.

Have you been scammed, screwed or misled? Did a publisher take your work and refuse to pay? Maybe you got stuck in a bad contract because of some fine print? Want to get the word out to other writers but you’re afraid of the consequences?

B.S Vigilante is your man. Email your story to B.S. at bsvigilante@gmail.com. He will keep your identity as private as he keeps his own, but he will tell your story and help protect your fellow writers from the scum of the industry.

Tell your friends. ;)
